The third compilation, released in October 1971, was the classic MEATY BEATY BIG & BOUNCY (UK: Original issue Track 1406 006; US: Decca DL 79184, November 1971, CD: MCAD 37001). MEATY BEATY BIG & BOUNCY was the first Who compilation to be released in both the UK and US. With an attractive gatefold sleeve and a specially shot cover photo by Roger’s cousin Graham Hughes, it went a long way towards introducing new American fans to The Who’s early UK triumphs. In an article which Pete wrote for Rolling Stone, he described MEATY BEATY BIG & BOUNCY as the best ever Who album.
