All Clouds Bring Not Rain is the second album from MEMORIALS, the Brighton-based psychedelic noise-rock duo of Verity Susman (Electrelane) and Matthew Simms (Wire). Conceived in a secluded barn studio in southwestern France and created entirely by the pair (written, performed, recorded and mixed), it is a beautiful, adventurous record that balances melody with bold experimentation. Twisting a wide palette of influences — folk, dub, post-punk, experimental tape music, 60s soul, garage rock, 70s spiritual jazz and Canterbury prog — into an unmistakable sound, the album features inspired instrumentation including harpsichord (recorded at 4AD's London studio), vibraphone and swirling Leslie textures from sessions at Stereolab drummer Andy Ramsay's Press Play. Verity's unadorned vocals move from tender to wild, her earworm melodies anchoring Matthew's imaginative production and adventurous arrangements. The result is a mesmerising, immersive listen that feels like an unearthed classic. Acclaim: "Exciting and unpredictable" - The Guardian; "Stunning, kaleidoscopic tunes" - Electronic Sound; "Engagingly eclectic" - Uncut; "Divinely tuneful yet confrontational" - The Wire.
