Alpha Maid – Is this a queue is the new album from the prolific South East London guitarist, vocalist and producer. Sparked by frustration with rigid narratives and inspired by particle physics’ embrace of the unknown, it explores living fully in the present with curiosity and possibility. Written across different years and places, it traces journeys and encounters, with Alpha Maid’s guitar a constant through a palette that shifts from dub—honouring her Jamaican heritage and the Windrush Generation—to the twinges of an emo love song on “On Smoke.” The record revels in the magic of what we can’t fully see or explain while pushing against stories that have been shrunk to fit. Alpha Maid (aka Leisha Thomas) has released on CURL and C.A.N.V.A.S. and collaborates with artists including Coby Sey and Mica Levi; their joint EP spresso arrived in 2023.
