Alex Zhang Hungtai returns with Dras, a meditative electronic/ambient/experimental work recorded in 2019 inside Montreal’s Saint Joseph Oratory. Across nine pieces, he uses saxophone, breath, and subtle digital manipulation to sculpt emotive drones and spectral layers, tracing delicate melodic lines that feel both tactile and weightless. The title track stretches challenging motifs into resonant textures; El Khela refracts into ghostly strata; Estado moves through a hazed cadence; Erg unfolds through quiet, iterative pulses; White Dwarf glows with restrained progression; and closer Mazil lets the horn open into low, guttural resonance. The result is a wordless, human current that maps the space between external architecture and interior terrain—music of inner dialogue and luminous stillness.
