The Early Years release their new album, 'Modern Moonlight', via Sonic Cathedral on May 22. It’s their first in a decade and just their third in 20 years, following their eponymous debut for Beggars Banquet in 2006 and 'II' (2016), recently named as one of Uncut’s Greatest Albums of the 2010s. It’s a stunning mix of Davids Bowie and Byrne, John Cage, Conny Plank, Brian Eno, Radiohead. 'A New Way Of Living' nods to Berlin-era Bowie and their 2008 single 'Like A Suicide'; 'Get Up Get Out' channels The Stooges and 'Here Come The Warm Jets'; 'The River' aims for an Eno/Moroder cross; 'Heaven Over There' is huge and heartbreaking; 'Tired Eyes' recalls Deerhunter. Side two ups the tempo: 'Shimmering Stone' mixes LCD Soundsystem with Gregorian chants; 'The Gift' captures a studio party; 'Three Quarters' is a Beta Band meets A Certain Ratio groove; the title track draws on acoustic Verve; closer 'Silver Lips (Champagne Eyes)' features Lorena Quintanilla (Lorelle Meets The Obsolete).
