NYC-based indie rockers Hiding Places deliver their debut LP, The Secret to Good Living, via Keeled Scales. Refined through years of live performance and studio work, it is the band’s first record made together in a professional studio rather than from separate home setups. Originally from North Carolina and Georgia, the quartet includes Audrey Keelin (vocals, guitar), Nicholas Byrne (vocals, guitar), Henry Cutting (drums), and Michael Matsikis (bass, production). They craft a forward-thinking sound with built-in nostalgia, drawing on the collage-like indie rock of Yo La Tengo, the elegant slowcore of The New Year, the riff-driven storytelling of Drive-By Truckers, and the analog warmth of The Microphones. The Secret to Good Living captures hermetic late-night sessions, collaborative writing retreats in Athens, Georgia, and a renewed sense of their singular dynamic; after years of working remotely, this record is the collective result of the band living in the same city for the first time, a shift that deepened their creative bond and connected them with fellow North Carolina transplants.
