Pre Order Released
Altameda will release their first track of the new year, the brilliant, driving ‘Nightmare Town’ on 19th January. The Canadian duo have also announced their new album ‘Born Losers’ will be released on 15th April via Modern Sky.
The duo talk about the track:
The concept for the song “Nightmare Town” was influenced largely by the film Badlands, and the true story that the film is loosely based on. Though the violence of those stories have no place in “Nightmare Town,” I found the desperation of the characters compelling. I will always love my hometown, however, the desire to change your geographical placement for the sake of adventure and spiritual growth is something that I’m sure most people can relate to at some point in their lives. I imagined a young couple daydreaming about stealing a car and making a break for it to some undetermined destination. Stopping at nothing to achieve freedom from their circumstances.
This feeling is conveyed sonically with a drum beat, acoustic guitars, and an energetic, desperate vocal delivery mixed with biting electric guitars, piano & organ. The lyrics depict the character’s home-town with precise detail focusing on the mundanity of suburban life, crystallizing into a simple and anthemic chorus.
The upcoming ‘Born Losers’ is Altameda’s strongest album to date. Recorded in Toronto, ON by Thomas D’Arcy (Neko Case, The Sheepdogs) and mixed in Portland, OR by Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Whitney, REM) the newest offering shows immense growth, both musically and personally. Grappling with family tragedy, love lost, and the countless miles in between. The record is both lyrically nuanced and compositionally lush. It is clear that the band have a bright future ahead. It features the previous tracks ‘Dead Man’s Suit’ and ‘Wheel Of Love’.
Altameda have been tipped extensively to this point, with the likes of Rolling Stone and Glide praising the band. They’ve also played SXSW and The Great Escape. Now they’ve partnered with Modern Sky UK, one of the most exciting new labels around for their new album ‘Born Losers’, set for release in Spring 2022.
It will be the follow-up to 2019’s Hasn’t Changed You. Full and resounding, cutting and dynamic, Altameda’s sophomore record is full of all that makes life a beautiful mess. Brought along by warm bass lines, bluesy rhythms and the sweet whir of the wurlitzer, vocalist Troy Snaterse’s lyrics burn with nostalgia and present desire, made vivid by his talk-like cadences and emotional peaks. It will lift you out of your seat—then all at once send you spiralling down to the kitchen floor.
