The debut single ‘Theme From S’Express’ borrowed enthusiastically not only from Rose Royce’s ‘Is It Love You’re After’ but over a dozen other recordings too: everyone from Debbie Harry and Yazoo to Gil Scott-Heron, The Stepford Wives and Gene Roddenberry’s ‘The Star Trek Dream’. A landmark in the use of samples, it shot to #1 in the UK in April 1988 before doing the business worldwide. (140g half-half black and blue vinyl)
