aptly titled album no2. if the vaccines' 2011 debut was a cut above their flat-packed indie-rock peers, the ethan johns-produced follow up sees their punky, spectorish pop continue to evolve. the guitars winningly switch from '60s surfer twang ('i always knew') to rowdy '50s rockabilly ('ghost town', the crampsy 'bad moon') as justin young evokes the bittersweet haze of youthful summers. standouts are 'weirdo', like pixies on valium, and 'all in vain', a soul stomper with a sweet beach boys interlude which recalls peak period stone roses.
