Numero Group returns to the depths of Detroit to unearth soul, R&B, funk, disco, boogie, and—by proximity—gospel. This second volume, Great Lakes Gospel: Detroit, gathers a dozen fervent church groups pushing the genre to its frayed edge. Expect choir funk, pulpit rap, direct-injection guitar solos, and a spirit-lifting charge from start to finish—music so alive you could start a church with it.
